A meeting of traoje union engineers in the Manchester district, who are over 30.000 strong, resolved to relinquish the agitation for reduced working hours until a more opportune time, and recommended all workers to help in the recovering of foreign trade.—Aus. N.Z. Cable Assoc. THE SESSION'S WORK. Received Aug. 18, 11.5 p.m. London, August 17. The six-and-a-half months session achieved a record output of legislation. It is noteworthy that the closure was seldom used, and time-wasting devices and party warfare were reduced to a minimum. Moreover, a great saving of time was due to the use of no standing committees, whilst the tendency of the Government to monopolise the time of the House was a less desirable feature. Ont of 126 Bills introduced in the House of Commons, 35 due. to private members, only three were passed. The Government passed 23 Bills of first-class importance. The Government, with a view to economy, has ordered the suspension of the construction of six airships jnvolving contracts of £2,2oo,ooo.—Times SerVice. REPQETED RESIGNATION OF FOOD MINISTER. Received August 10, 1.50 a.m. London, August 18. It is reported that Mr.. G. H. Roberts contemplates resigning from the Food Ministry, as he reseuts Sir Auckland Geddcs' intervention in the matter of profiteering.
