STRATFORD.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) As a result of a plain and fancy dress ball held in the Public Hall, Whangaon Tuesday evening last, a substantial sum was raised for the building fund of the Roman Catholic Church. The preparations were in the hands of a strong committee with Mr. Mr. Cullerton as secretary, and everything ran smoothly down to the last detail. The hall was tastefully decorated, and the floor was in perfect order, a capital supper being provided by the ladies. Keen interest was taken in a waltzing competition, for which there were many entries. Miss Meredith and Mr. Flynn were awarded first prize and Miss McGuire. and Mr. Kcutrowski second. The ladies' prize for the most original dress (judged by popular vote) went to Mrs. J. Anderson (Australian aboriginal) and the gentlemen's to Mr. Bovis. Miss 6. McCutcheon won the prize for the best fancy costume worn by a lady. In Saturday's issue it was stated that Mr. Jos. Boon's requirements in timber at the present time were 800 trucks. The number should have been printed as 80.
