A unique but thoroughly enojyable dance, arranged by a committe of girls, took place at Kawaroa Park Bungalow last Friday- The costumes worn by some of the dancers were extraordinary, and, anyone looking in and not knowing of the dance might have wondered what this unusual gathering was for. The chaperones (Mesdames G. Fraser, P. B. f Fitzherbert and J. C. Nicholson) were each presented with a bouquet composed of cabbage leaves. The hall itself was decorated mostly with garden vegetables, as was also the supper table, though the supper gave no indication of "hard-up-ness," indeed, it was one of the best. Amusing notices warned those present not to "Chuch off at the pianist, it is doing it's best," "If you haven't paid don't clear," "Dancers are warned r.ot to play two up or double headers." The subscription rates were fixed at Is WJd and 2s 5Jd, but at the last moment a war tax of Jd was announced. Those who made the preparations for the dance should be gratified with the result.

Last Thursday afternoon the Women's National Reserve held a daffodil tea at Whiteley Hall. Quite a number of people were present and the sale of flowers and afternoon tea realised about £Vi, this sum being handed over to the Soldiers' Hostel. » * • •

A thoroughly delightful fancy dress dance took place at Kawaroa Park Bungalow last night. It was arranged by a committee of "country girls," whose homes are some miles out of town, and proved one of the jolliest dances of the season. The chaperones were Mesdames Wneatley, Cholmondley and Atkinson. • • • •

On Thursday afternoon the Tc Henui Ladies' Guild held a garden party at "Tirohanga," the residence of Archdeacon and Mrs Evans. It was a beautiful cay. The garden was looking its best, with its spring bulbs and flowering shrubs, whilst a Japanese, flowering plum tree in full bloom added greatly to the plcturesqueness of the scene. Amongst those present I noticed Mesdames Harvie, Rockel, Penn, C. E. Baker, Millar, 0. Hoby, Hutchen, Jas- Wilson, Matthews, T. C. List, iJ. G. List, D. Morrison, D. K.
