Hides.—The sales were very firm; super thouts advanced a farthing and kips a halfpenny. MEAT TRADES. THE ENGLISH MARKETS. Auckland, August 13. The provincial executive of the Auckland Farmers' Union resolved unanimously to urge the Government to appoint experts to inquire into the whole position of the meat trade, and endeavour to arrange with the Imperial Government to release Dominion produce at a price that will put it in the hands of retail butchers without proilt or loss, and, further, to report to the New Zealand Government what steps should be taken in regard to markets of New Zealand produce after the cessation of the commandeer. BURNSIDE. Dunedln, August 13. Ther£ was a very small entry of fat cattle at Bumside, only 112 being penned, comprising medium to good steers and heifers. The yarding was insufficient for butchers' requirements and prices advanced. Prime bullocks, £24 10 £29 10s, medium £l9 to £22 10s, light £ls medium £l3 to £ls 15s, light and aged £lO to £l2 10s. Of sheep there was a medium yarding, 1635 being penned, consisting of medium to good. As several leading butchers had bought privately,' the entry was fully sufficient for requirements, and prices declined Is to Is 6d per head. Prime wethers 48s 6d to 53s 6d, medium 41s Cd to 40s, light and unfinished 30s fid to 37s Cd, prime ewes 37s to 40s 9d, medium 32s to 35s Cd, light and aged 24s to 28s. There was a medium entry of fat pigs and a small entry of stores. Competition was keen, and a clearance was soon effected. Fat pigs realised 5s to 7s Od per head above late rates, and stores also sold in favor of vendors. .
