The Commissioner of Police, Mr. J. O'Donovan, this week paid a visit of inspection to New Plymouth and surrounding stations. A Dunedin wire states that Mr. T. K. Sidey,' who has represented Dunedin South in Parliament for nearly 18 years, lias decided not to seek reelection at the general election. A.London cable states that Viscount Grey undertakes a special mission to Washington to deal with peace questions until an ambassador is' appointed. A later cdble states that it is semi-officially informed that Viscount Grey has-been offered the American ambassadorship. At the annual meeting of the Makelawa l)airy Company yesterday, it was resolved to forward* a letter of sympathy to the relatives of the late Mr. T. K liamerton, who at the time of his death was auditor to the company. The chairman, in moving the resolution, remarked that Mr. Hamerton had attended the annual meetings so often that th»y looked upon him as one of themselves.
