The Egmont County Council yesterday passed a vote of sympathy with Mr. 11. Lambie, a former member of thd Council, in the loss he had sustained by, the death of his wife.
Mr. and Mrs. J. Muir, of Waverley, celebrated their golden wedding ozv Thurday last. Possibly this refers te D* W Gregory, captain of the first Aos> tralian Eleven (in 1878), who wai kofn in April, 1845, and would thus be la his seventy-fifth year. ' ' Mr M. W. Beattie ha* been appointed manager of the Awatuna Dairy Co.'s 1 branch factory at Taungatara. - Mr. Bcatty has just recently returned from' the front, and before enlisting wu managing the Lowgarth factory. * Mr Alex Harvey, sen., founder of the ilrm of Harvey and Son*, engineers,• Auckland, is dead; aged 78. A Hawera Star representative, in conversation with Mr. Wilkinson, leartit that he was considering whether he should not give more time to his business than he has been able to do during hie tern as a member of Parliament, but he had not by any means decided what,he was going to do, and, as far as meeting his supporters, the Star understood that his idea was mainly to learn their views of his stewardship.
Mr Aubrey Williams, third son of the Rev. W- J. Williams, Sumner, is returning by the Tainui. He went to Russia four years before the war began, joined the New Zealand troops in England, and served at Galiipoli as a signaller. Wounded in France, he wfls sent, to England, where ho took charge of the Chronicles of the N.Z.E.F. for some time Later, he was >ent to Russia, since when he has been lecturing in Eng. land on his experiences. Dr. Williams, another son of the Rev. Mr Williams, has written from the Dardanelles, stating that lie was on his way to represent' the Daily Chronicle and The Time* with General Deniken's forces in Russia.
The death oocurred at Feilding on Monday of Mr. W, J. Reeve, Clerk of the Court, Mr. Reeve, who was in hit 04tJi year, was born in New Zealand, and had spont nearly 30 years in the Justice Department, having qualified to rotire on his pension next year. Mr. Reevi acted as Clerk of the Court at Pahtatui,, Whangarei, Stratford, Rotorua, and Feilding. He was a keen volunteer and at one time was Adjutant 0 f the Taranaki district, retiring with the rank of captain. Ho paraded with the Fei!din« Territorials on Peace Day, when hj« waj taken ill suddenly, and had been ailing since, though he stuck to hi* work, and was on duty in the Courthouse on Mon day. Mr. and Mrs. Reeve were hard hit by the great war, losing thiwton* and a son-in-law in the fighting The only remaining son fs chief officer on u ship trading to China. There are fout daughters.
