STRATFORD.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) (All communlcjtlous, letters, etc., left nitU Mr il. i. Hopkins, bookseller, tilll receive prompt ttteutlou.) August 11. The Mayor (Mr. J. W. McMillan) and Cr. Cameron paid a visit of inspection to the cemetery yesterday, and both expressed great satisfaction at the improvements made during the past few months. The caretaker has the grounds and paths in excellent order, and there was evidence everywhere of constant painstaking attention. Lately a large number of ornamental, native and flowering trees have been planted, and in a few years these should add greatly to the good appearance of the grounds. A definite plan of beautification is being followed, and it is intended to reserve plots on all new ground for shrubs. The caretaker has planted a few native trees, which appear to be doing well. A few rest scats are very much needed, and gifts of this character from publicspirited men would be welcomed. A few ornamental shrubs would also be an acceptable gift. It is the intention of the council to erect conveniences as soon as circumstances will permit. Mr. and Mrs. Griffin, of Toko, were thrown out of a gig last week as a result of the horse taking fright at a traction engine. Mr. Griffin's shoulder was dislocated and his face bruised, but Mrs. Griffin escaped without serious injury.
