The whole game was marked by rough play on the part of DaleHeld, as was manifested afterwards by the. nu *Jiber of black eyqs and facial abrasions suffered by members of the opposing team. Jmngs did not improve when the referee remonstrated, but a crisis was reached about twenty minutes before time, when the scores were: Dalefleld 9. Red Star 6. The latter team had scored fl'tyy which was disputed by a member of the Dalefleld team, who became abusivo. On the referee ordering him off the flcid he refused to go, but was later refused by several spectators. Thereupon his fellow-players vented their feelings against the referee by using language which was quite audible to the spectators, and In a few minutes a free flght was In progress. The referee suspended the match and walked off the field. A special meeting of the Walrarapa branch of the Rugby Union has been called tot next Saturday, when the Dalefleld cap. tain, the referee, and the two line umpires will be asked to give an account of tho occurrence, It Is likely that the Red Star team will win the match by default. At Wellington on Saturday, Poneke 22 defatted Petone 3, whilst Athletic 34 had little difficulty In vanquishing Oriental 0. The points for the championship now stand; Athletic 21, Poneke 18. Petone 17. At Hawera on Saturday there was a large attendance of the public to witness the senior game between Hawera and Oknlawa. A very fine exhibition of football was given, the play generally boing of a high standard, victory going to tho Hawera team who scored 15 points against 5 scored by Okalawa.
