A MINE ON FIRE.
A PECULIAR OCCURRENCE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Dimedin, Last Night. A serious mishap occurred at Kaitangata No. 2 Coal Mine on Saturday, which will result in the mine being closed for some time. It appears that'a race of boxes, loaded with coal, fouled the ringa supporting the steel plate«nlnd sand at the seat of a long-established fire which had been stopped. Twa rings were dislodged, allowing the air to reach the smouldering fire. The place was a mass of flames instantly. As it was pay Saturday, the mine was practically idle, but one hone and a race of trucks were burnt. Soma winches were got out of the mine td-day, but it is believed the dip will have to be stopped at the main
