AUSTRALIAN SHIPPING STRIKE.
CLAIMS TO BE CONCEDED. SEAMEN TO RESUME WORK. By Telegraph—Press Assn —Copyright. Melbourne, August 11. It is unofficially reported that the Government ia conceding the four main points of the seamen's claims, but has refused to release Walsh until work ia resumed.
It is also reported that the Seamen's Council lias recommended the resumption of work on these terms. Brisbane, August 11. Tho Cane Growers' Association repsrts that, owing to the absence of sugar sacks, which are not procurable as the result of. the seamen's strike, the mills are unable to operate on the crops at Ayr, in the lower North Burdekin district, which are rapidly dying, and many "rowers are faced with ruin.—Aus.-N.2S. Cable Assn. CONFLICTING REPORTS. Received -Aug.-12, 12.55 a.m. Melbourne, Aug. 11. Conflicting reports regarding the strike negotiations again dampened the hope of an early settlement. It is officially stated to-day that despite the optimism of the leaders the men adhered to their determination not to coneider' the terms of settlement tmtil Walsh was Teleased. On the other hand certain officials of the Seamen's Union denied this was the men's attitude.
