REPATRIATION COMMITTEE.
A meeting of the New Plymouth Repatriation Committee wan held last night, there being present: Lt.-Col. C. H. Weston (in the chair), Messrs. H R. Cattley, T. Furlong, W. J. Chaney, F W. Okey, E. Whittle, R. J. Clarke, E. B. Ellerm, J. R. Rowlands, C. Carter, and A S. Allen (secretary). The secretary reported that one soldier who had had six months' training in engineering at the Technical College, and a further 12 months in a motor garage, would complete his term on August 18. Satisfactory reports of his work had been received from his employers during the probationary period. .
It was reported that employment had beert found for three men, and that there were seven names on the unemployment register. Seven applications were received for properties and five for land, The applicants will bo furnished with all information available, those requiring land being referred to the Commissioner of Crown Lands.
Two applications for loans towards the purchase of dairy cows (one for £3OO and the other for £100) wore recommended for approval, as was also an application for a loan of £l6O for effecting improvements upon a farm. One application for a business loan of £3OO was deferred, pending further investigation.
Six loans for the purchase of furniture totalling £2OO, were granted. One applicant was granted sustenance while training on a farm.
