THE MEAT INDUSTRY.
PROBLEM OF FUTURE DISTRIBUTION. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Marton, Saturday. The serious danger which threatens the meat industry of the Dominion owing to the want of insulated space was discussed by a special meeting of the executive of the Marton branch of the Fanners' Union. Mr Hugh Burrell, chairman of the Federated "Freezing Company, moved that the Government be urged to set up an - committee of producers familiar with the meat business to proceed} to England to arrange for the future distribution of bur meat. Mr Burjell pointed out that 415,000 carcases . were lifted in July, whereas 800,000 might reasonably have been eypected to l>e moved.
Mr W. Poison, of Wanganui. also addressed, the meeting. He expressed pfavefliorft' of the operations of tlie American Meat Trust. The solution was to go Home and put the whole question of the meat business fairly and effectively before the Imperial authorities,
A deputation was appointed to profeed to Wellington to bring the matter before the Government. It is considered that the position is likely to be morer serious at the conclusion of the Imperial commandeer.
