NZ. CHALLENGE SHIELD CONTEST. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Palmerston North, Last Night. Canterbury defeated Manawatu for the New Zealand Hockey Challenge Shield on Saturday by two goals to one. Canterbury's team was much stronger than the local one, although the latter played a groat game, which was brilliant and fast. Manawatu were kept on the defensive for the greater part of the game, although several determined attacks were made. All the goals were scored in the first spell. Holland and Beatson scored for Canterbury and Tucker for Manawatu. Canterbury will play Fcil'ding on Monday. HIGH SCHOOL A v. OLD GIRLS. Three matches were played at the racecourse on Saturday afternoon. Girls' High School A team met and defeated the High School Old Girls, after a very interesting contest, by 3 goals to 2, For the High School, goals were shot by E. Ballantyne and for the Old Girls by F. Evans. Mr. Crimp was referee.' AOTEA v. AVOCA. Aotea (Stratford) came to New Plymonth and met Avoca, defeating the local players by 4 goala to nil. Mr. Jury was referee. TECHNICAL COLLEGE v. HIGH SCHOOL B. . ' Technical' College beat High School B by 9 goals to 'l. Mr. Crimp was referee.
