The many friends of Captain J. W. Boon, who has been Trentham Camp Quartermaster for the last four and a half years, will be pleased to learn that fie has sufficiently recovered from lis recent severe illness to be able to travel home to New Plymouth on sick leave, and that he is gaining strength daily. A press message from Hamilton »tat«i that Mr. K. S. Brookftold, manager of the Bank of New Zealand for over,2o years, died on Saturday from suddenlydeveloped pneumonia. He was taken ill on Saturday morning, developments «n----suing rapidly, resulting in death at 0.30 p.m. He was CO years of age, and held the positions of president of the Hamilton Club and Hamilton Racing Club, and was a former president of the Boatinj ii i f an aetivei interest in ■ all branches of sport, and was looked upon as one of the leading and moat esteemed men in tho district. Prior to the commencement of business at the meeting of the Moa Road Board .. on Saturday, the chairman referred to W' the loss the district had sustained by the death of the late Mr> T. E. Hamerton who had reported the meet ng* of the board for the past eighteen years. Mr. Hamerton had alwav* taken a lead tn anything that pertained to the best interests of the town and district,'and was a man the district could ill affwT to lose. Though a hard hitter at times, [t was never for his own personal gain. He moved: "That this board desires to place on record its appreciation of the services rendered f> the district by the .ate Mr. T. E. Hamerton, and exnrtilies Its sympathy with hi* familv."
