THE TROTS.

Christchurch, Last Night, J Several winners at the August meet-1 ing last year are likely to be seen under { silk at Addington to-morrow, amongst j them being Harold Child, Biown'fl Nug-1 get, Chid, and Lord Minto. The damage Achilledes sustained to I his leg when being schooled on Tuesday is rapidly healing, and his trainer has , hopes of the gelding being able to fulfil his engagements at the Grand National meeting. "Argus." writing in (he Star, says the ' heavy rain of the past week is certain to leave the track In a bad state, especially as it is only a short time since it was ploughed up. The times recorded will, therefore, be slow, and those owners who hoped to qualify horses for the New Zealand Trotting Cup are certain to be disappointed. Horses who favor heavy going should appear to the greatest, advantage in the racing. There are not many new trotters engaged in the unhoppled races. The field for the two mile saddle event includes Wild Pedro, from the north of the South Island, Patard, from Dunedin, and Ben Bell, from Oamaru The last-named | looked to fyo on the improve in some of his races towards the close of last sea-, son, and Petard also showed better form than he did early in the season. Peter McMillan is a much-improved tTotter, and he won in decisive fashjon at I the South Wairarapa Club's meeting in .Tune. He is a powerful horse, who should be at home in the heavy conditions of the track.

Colonel Haveloek has nof, been going as well as his trainer hoped, but he has reliability to recommend him in his races. Sunrise only' has to be iij the humor antf he will be hard to beat frpm the end of the handicap in the two-mile harness event.

No'-nn Eincrcn, who has teen training on satisfactorily, should race well, but lie has now to commence with a lgt of liorses in front of him, and this may not be to his advantage.

Beeswing, if she improves in her staying powers, eiioi'f 1 be prominent, as fiho has plenty of speed and is a quick beginner.

The North Islander, Grattan Chimes, has arrived, but she han not in the past shown speed to be dangerous in such a race. Bon Patch is one of the improving sort, and Dodderall should make a pood showing-.

Tl-.o Ansnist Handicap has the Aucklander, Asturio, in the field, and he is a rare good pacer who can stay well, but he is not a reliable beginner."

•Tohn Dillon is training satisfactorily, and Agafchos is partial to heavy going. Sherwood is making his reappearance after doing little racing this season, and Cello Rrdnev Wilkes should do well in the going.
