INQUESTS.

An inquest was held at Waitara on Tuesday, before Mr. W. F. Jenkins, J.P., concerning the circumstances of the deatli of a man named William Free, aged about 30, a farmer aud returned soldier, who was found drowned in a dam at Brixton on the 2nd inst. A verdict was returned that deceased met his death by drowning himself while suffering from mental depression. An inquest touching the death of a Native named Tarai Harwood, whose body was recovered by the police in the Kapoaiai stream, Pungarehu, op Monday, was held the following day at Parihaka, before Mr. T. P. Hughson, J.P., acting coroner, and a jury comprising P. Bcrge (foreman), A. W. Phillips, J. B. Groom, and J. Schinkel. Constable O'Neill represented the police. After hearing evidence a verdict of found drowned was returned.
