DAMMING THE RHONE. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Paris, August 5 The shortage of coal has turned th» attention of scientists to the possibility of power from tbe River Rhone. Tl-.e Government has planned a gigantic hydro-electric scheme developing 750,000 horse-power. The damming of the river will render it navigable for 1200-ton vessels to Switzerland, and will render possible the irrigation of vast and fertile tracts. The scheme will take fifteen years to complete and cost a hundred millions sterling.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assr..
