Christchurch, Last Night. Wintry conditions prevailed during the training operations at Rlccarton this morning. The sand and tan tracks were open, both being decidedly heavy. Sir Solo compassed two rounds on the sand, the.second at a fairly strong pace. He has made marked Improvement since arriving at headquarters. Master Strowan's task was two rounds on the sand, the pace being Increased during the second circuit. .Rewi Poto and Omahit, both of whom look very fit, were separately sent over a round of the sand at a strong half pace. Gold Kip moved particularly well in getting over a round in about three-quarter pac«. Kllboyne, who shows a lot of Improvement, was given strong exercise.
Maryellte Jumped very well In compassing a round ot the schooling hurdles, i Sonny and Wlnslow were companions In a round of the hurdles, both acquitting themselves really well,
Sandowne, The Grand, and Sam Pan set eut for a round of the big fences, but The Grand came to grief at the first obstacle. He was subsequently remounted and completed Tils task In good style. The other pair jumped well ail through. Comment's task was half a mile on the sand at a useful pace.
Rebekah and Imarlbbon, who arrived ye». terday, were given easy tasks. The former hwks particularly well. A largo numb* iof others were exercised about the centre of the trock and on the roads. When Achllledes fell in his schooling task at Rlccarton yesterday he cut the coronet off his off hind foot very severely. Another observer says Coalition has lost none-of his admirers by his jumping displays since he has been at Rlccarton, and taking a Ine through the form at Trentham, he looks like Ulng very dangerous In the big crosscountry event next week.
Art Is getting through a solid preparation ror the Grand. National Hurdle Race, and his prospects are coming into favor as the day of the race approaches. His ability as a stayer will assist hlra at the business end of the long Journey, when mnny of his opponents will be getting very tired. Master Strownn Is going on nicely In his work at Rlccarton. Opinions are divided regarding his prospects In the Grand National steeplechase. It is popularly considered that the spell he had after racing at Trentham must prejudice his prajpects, but some good judges are prepared to see him quite at his best next week!
Bon Reve has done nothing of n sensational character since ho has been at Rlricarton, but ho loolra In good trim and continues to get through plenty of useful tasks. He has not yet raced over the Rlccarton country, but It ,1a thought that he will be quite jnual to negotiating the fences, In which cose he must play a prominent part In the Grand National Steeplechase.
