* —r~ * >w . THE PEOPLE'S, LAST NIGHT OF OLGA PETROVA. "The Life Mask," Petrova's great success, screens finally to-night at the People's. "The Life Mask" is essentially a mystery play and the building of the scenario has been so skilfully handled as to leave serious doubt in the minds of the audience regarding the final outcome until the very last scene has been played on the "screen. The unravelling of the tangled skein, a task ably discharged by the capable east, affords entertainment of the most inviting nature. The famous Polish star goffers a characterisation entirely different from anything she has previously done in the films. To-morrow's new attraction will be "Green Eyes," a Thos. I H. Ince masterpiece starring dimpled | Dorothy Dalton.

EVERYBODY'S. MADGE KENNEDY AND TOM MOORE. A girl selected a name at random from a telephone book, and in order to prove her ability as an actress, passed herself off as the widow of the man owning the name. This is the theme of "The Fair Pretender," Madge Kennedy's latest fioldwyn release now showing at Everybody's Theatre. How the supposed dead husband materialises in real life andj causes embarassing complications, which are ably contributed to by Tom Moore, makes a rich comedy with humorous situations. The author poses as a successful man, and when the two bluffers meet and the danger of their bluff being called seems imminent, fate steps into the game and takes a hand. The trump card is a foreign spy whose nefarious schemes serve to bring the two lovers together. Another episode of ''The House of Hate" is included on this programme which shows finally to-night. THE EMPIRE.

MARY PICKFORD AS "STELLA MARIS." MATINEE 3.30 TO-DAY. The big Artcraft special feature, "Stella Maris," will commence its local season at the Empire this afternoon, when a special matinee is being held at 3.30. This picture has for its star dainty Mary Pickford, in a dual role, as the daughter of love and the child of hate. As "Stella Maris". you will be given an opportunity of seeing the versatility of Mary Pickford as the sensitive; .beautiful, and sympathetic and loved by all Stella Maris, in which character, she displays acting abilities of marvellous appeal, sincerity, and depth. But her "Unity Blake" is a wonderful bit pf character drawing. She succeeds by' sheer art in making the hunchback's beauty of soul as apparent as her physical ugliness. It is. a wonderful performance, humorous in its appeal, so in contrast to that contained' in the other character shi=' portrays- Through remarkable ,phqtography : i both characters are showij. on. the screen at), < the same time, and effects are obtained which .have never heretofore been successfully attempted. "Stplla Maris" shows' again to-night, to-morrow night and at both matinee and night sessions on Saturday. Seats for any night can now be reserved at Collier's.
