DISTRICT NEWS.
FRANKLEY. (From Our Own Correspondent.) ■ The welcome home social to the returned soldiers of the district tooic place in the gymnasium on Friday evening, and was a decided success. The programme consisted of dancing, singing and card playing. The committee are to be congratulated upon the way in which everything was arranged. Mr. Arthur Lister as M.C., kept the dancine going in his usual good style, while Messrs. Sutton and Sims had charge of the card tables. Mr. Rogers made an excellent chief steward. At 10 p.m., the M.C. called a halt, while Mr .A. R. Davies, chairman of the committee, extended a hearty welcome home- to the boys. Mr. S. G. Smith, M.P., then took the platform, amidst cheers, and spoke at length with regard to the service the soldiers had rendered the Empire. The old building then rang with singing "For They Are Jolly Good Fellows." Lieut. Allen suitably responded on behalf of the returned men. During the evening songs were given by Messrs. Leo. and Arthur Gilbert, and Mr. A. R. Davies. Music was supplied by Misses Warn, Hair, Allen, Gilbert, Mrs. Davies, and Mr. Fred Boulton, jnr., and the ladies of the district supplied a bounteous repast. Altogether it was a very happy evening.
