PUMGARfeHU. (From Our Own Correspondent) On Wednesday evening the people of Punpnreliu tendered a farewell social to Mr W. H. ICeasberry, who is leaving Punearehu for Warea. The affair was orcanised by tlic social committee, but was really of a public nature. Tho hall was well filled with friends of tho guest, some coming long distances to show their regard for Mr Keasberry. As per usual the greater part of the evening was taken up with dancing and big as the dancing floor is It provod none too big for the large crowd of enthusiastic dancers. During an interval Mr J. Campbell, as chairman of the social committ'ee, gave a short address In which ho paid a tribute to the work done by Mr Keasberry while in this district. . Hb then called upon Mr Eli Taylor to make tho presentation. Mr Taylor, in doing so, paid a high tribute to the many oxcellent qualities possessed by the. guest, which was shown both In Ills public and private life. jUr Keasberry had been connected with the company sinee its Infancy, having been manager for a number of years, latterly as manager of the general store department, and It went to his credit, that tho business since Mr Keasberry took over management had grown at an enormous rate, being classed,as one tif the best businesses of its kind now on the coast. The residents would, regret exceedingly the circumstances that hail' taken Mr Keasberry away from them, but at the same time they must congratulate hlffi bn the. step lie was taking and wish him every jSros-' perity In his new venture, Mr Taylor then asked Mr Keasberry to accept a leather suit case, a, silver cigarette case and holder which had been subscribed for by his friends as a token of esteem. The audlcnro ihen rose and sang most heartily, "For He's a Jolly Good Fellow" and "Anld Lang Syne," concluding with threo |iearly cheers. The guest of the evening suitably responded, expressing his appreciation of the kindly remarks, and concluded by thanking them very earnestly for the very handsome presents.

A sumptuous supper was provided, the arrangements being in the hands of the lady members of the social committee, this department being .onrried out In the best possible manner, the supper being greatiy enjoyed by all. A great deal of praise'is due the committee, for the arrangements were splendid and the dance, under tho' capable' management ofMr T. Barrett, went with a awing from Btart to finish. The music was supplied by Mrs E. Pope (piano) and Mr, Norris (violin)'and left nothing to-be desired. Extras were contributed by Mr .T. Orbell. Mr and Mm Orbell and family havo now arrived in the district and taken over the management of Mr 3. Fleming's farm.'Cape road. It is needless to add that the residents all extend them a hearty welcome to old Fungarchu. Few Maoris .have been noticed around the district lately, ail, or the majoiily of them, have Keen,taking part in the large tangl held at PariJiaka, one of their number having died recent- . ly. 1 Mr W. H, Keasberry was honored on Monday evening, the 28th July, by the visit of a surprise party which proved a very delightful and jolly little affair, Mcsdames Pope, Grenfell and Cameron' contributed items to a very enjoynblo programme of entertainment. Phonograph selections by Mr S. Durbridge filled up part of the evening's enjoyment. Stock'generally appear to be wintering well, but the weather lately experienced has been very trying.. There have been some intensely cold nights in Pungarehu recently.
