London, July 29In moving the second reading of the Soudan Loan Bill in the House of Commons Mr Harmsworth said the Bill proposed to enable the Soudan Government to raise six millions for irrigation and railways with the view of developing cotton growing. It was proposed to plant -a,'large area at '"the junction of the Blue and White Niles. The scheme was of the utmoit importance in view of our dependence on American cotton.— ;Auß.-N.Z. Cable Assn. OFFICERS' CLUB IN LONDON. London, July 29. The New Zealand and Australian Officers' Club, in Granville Place, is being closed General Johnstone, a New Zealander, presiding at the officers' dinner, presented the founder and hostess, Miss Close, with a diamond wristlet watch as a mark of appreciation from thousands of Australian and New Zealand officers.
