I A Brown shield (Association) football match i was played here to-day between Canterbury (tha holders) and Otago before a large crowd. Canterbury had n good deal the best of the ■ play all through and won by five goals to one. I . t CIiIFTON (3) DEFEAT lUHOTU (0). At Rahotu on Saturday the local team put up a great fight against a strong Clifton team which had to struggle hard to score a nar- . row win. The local forwards more than held ) the visiting forwards, but the visitors were much superior in the rear division. It was. [• however, not until the last fire minutes of i the game that Clifton scored a try, which i gave them the victory by 3 to nil, Mr. O, West was referee. STAR (11) DEFEAT OKATO (3). At Okato on Saturday, Star defeated Okato I after a very even game by 11 points to 3.* The i visitors scored all their points in the first [ spell, when Cliff, Francis, and Reynolds scored tries, one of which Sutherland converted. In the second spell, Okato held the advantage and C. Putt kicked a penalty goal. Mr. Boco was referee. SECOND JUNIORS. CLIFTON T. HIGH SCHOOL A, ' At Waltara, High School A were defeated by the local team by 6 points to niL Clifton were much the heavier combination, and had the advantage In the wet ground. Mr. George was referee. HIGH SCHOOL B DEFEAT STRATFORD D.H.S. At the Racecourse, High School B defeated Stratford District High School, after a splendid contest, by 14 points to 11. Mr. F. Hooker was referee. TUICAPA v. STAR DRAW. At the Recreation Ground, Tukapa and Star drew, the score being three points each. For Tukapa, Goodacro kicked a penalty goal, whilst Sharp scored a try tor Star. Last time these teams met the result was also it draw, Tukapa scoring a try and Star a penalty goal. Mr. K. Johnson was referee. SATURDAY COMPETITION. SENIORS. Aug. 9.—01 d Boys v. Raho'.u, at New Plymouth; Oi-ato v. Clifton, at Waitara; Star a bye. SECOND JUNIORS. Aug. 9.—Lepperton v.
