The Violet Douglas-Pennant case, which has been agitating political circles for many months, took a dramatic turn in the House of Lords, when it was decided by 69 votes to 42 in favor of a Select Committee to investigate Pennants dismissal from the Women's Air Force.
Lord Stanhope, in moving for the committee, alleged grave scandals between Army officers and girls training as motor drivers, some of whom returned drunk from London at four o'clock in thj morning in Government cars. He added that the Government had previously refused an inquiry, fearing these revelations;—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
