COURSING.
THE TARANAKI STAKES ' The coursing meeting which wu opened yesterday on the New Plymouth enclosure at Glcnavon, Smart Bold,' under the auspices of the T&ranaki and Egmont Coursing Cluta, promises tobe one of the most successful yet held in New Plymouth. Favored with fto# weather, there was a good attendance of spectators, who expressed themselves as pleased with the sport provided. There wore some great runs, the hares tafag in splendid condition and strong. We first Six courses resulted without a ttU. The arrangements made by the mm* tee for the successful conduct oFlfce, meeting wjsre good, whilst Mr. Doughty, who took up the position as secretary pro-tern. at short notice, owing to the illness of Mr. G. Bruce, proved to be the ' right man for the position. He alto acted as slip, getting the dog* away well. The other officials, Messrs W. Haskell (slip steward) and A. Haskill (cail steward), also attended well to their duties. Mr, C. A. Woolford, of Opunake, acted as judge, and, with'one or two exceptions, his decisions found general favor. In nil 22 dogs {competed, mid the first and second $ off. Detailed results; WRST BOUND. Mr. R. Haskett's Commenor beat Mr, S. reaver's Master Tuckfleld. , Mr. J. Feaver's Coastguard beat Messrs Doolaghty and Jarretta Irish Molly. Mr. J. Hanan's Bill's Qift beat Mr. P. NicJiol's Gloaming. Mr. Shore's Night Attack beat Mr. Snook's Boy. Mr. X Cleary's Martial Air beat Messrs Bruce and Haskett's Sweet Comedy. Mr, I\ Nichol's Black Diamond beat Mr. Snook's Henry Clay. Mr. Child's Salvador beat Mr, Cmv ford's Lady Constance. SECOND BOUND. Somo Hope beat Gay Lad. , Sunspot beat Schi!leagh. rl ] Commenor beat Coastguard.
