THE OPUNAKE LINE.
MOTUROA-OPUNAKE SECTION. Sir William Frascr lias written as follows to Mr. 0. A. Wilkinson, M.P.: 'lt 19 my intention to recommend Cabinet that the continuation of the Opunake line to New Plymouth should appear on the Hallways Authorisation Act during the coming session, as 1 fully recognise the importance of this work. I regret to say that the number of men applying for einploynisnt on tho Opunake line now under construction is Bonwwhat disappointing, as I should like to see this work completed an early as possible. I fear, however, that it woWd not be practicable to take men from other work and send them to New Ply. mouth. I will, however, do my best to try and find more men.'' Mr. Wilkinson has repljed in the, fol< lowing terms: "lam very pleased indeed to know that it is your intention to again recommend Cabinet to authorise the continuation of the railway from Opunake to New Plymouth during the coming session, and that you fully recognise tho importance of this work. This information will be very satisfactory to the district generally, and I trust that there will be no difficulty in obtajnJnij the neceaasry authority. In regard to the vigorous prosecution of the work already authorised I note that it ia mostly a matter of labor not being available, and I again urge upon you the adyicability of scouring labor from other jigtricta where men are unemployed*,. This is an excellent district for men to"jn»ork in, the whole of the line being thtyjicji a settled district, easy of access, and a pood one to live in. I feel sure that you will, as promised, da your beet."
