WAR BRIDE'S STORY.
SEPARATION ORDER REFUSED BY MAGISTRATE. 1 Wellington, July 29. Whether or not Ueorge Bernard (a returned soldier, against whom his young wife applied for a, separation older at yesterday's sitting of the Magistrate's Court) had spoken of his "sheep farm on Lambton Quay" or his "ranch at Wharekeraupunga" when sojourning in England, his English bride was a somewhat discontented lady when she recounted her disappointments to the court. "He left me at the Post Office," said she, "and I saw no more of him until he was arrested 'i ■ Wanganui. We stayed at a Wellingiuii hotel for some days and then he went away." The magistrate (to defendant): What did you leave her for? Bernard (a clean-shaven yonih in khaki) : I did not mean to leave her, Your Worship. I know I acted foolishly and did. what appeared to be a cowardly act. But I have had a lot of trouble of late, and it upset me. I went to Wanganui without telling my wife, op the impulse of the moment. I am sorry. His Worship: Have you any money? Defendant. Not much is left. lam on my final leave, but have drawn my' pay and have practically been paid off. I will be discharged in a few days. I am willing to make a fresh start if she jis agreable. His Worship: What do you say, Mrs Bernard ? Plaintiff (firmly): No, never again. He left me and I am not going to suffer again. His Worship: It is not a case in which a separation order should be made. Defendant has no doubt acted foolishly, but they are young and I hope will make it up. The separation order is refused, but I will make an order that defendant must' pay thirty shillings per week towards the support of his wife. The young English bride left the court and was immediately followed by her Boldier husband, evidently intent on seeking reconciliation.
