TARANAKI BISHOPRIC.

SYNOD'S RESOLUTIONS. The following reference was made by the Bishop to. the scheme for establishing a new Taranaki Bishopric, at the Synod last week: "As the outcome of a petition from Taranaki, a select committee was sot up by General Synod to consider the proposals submitted by the petitioners, and the following resolutions were formulated by the committee and passed by the Synod: (1) That the Endowment Fund must provide a minimum income of £IOOO per annum for the Bishop, together with a suitable residence. (2) That the seat of the Bishop of the proposed new diocese should be at New i'lymouth. (3) That the General Synod recommends the dioceses of Auckland and Wellington to appoint members to a joint committee, to act ns an executive committee in the promotion of the new diocese. (The members of this joint committee must be elected at the present session of our Synbd.) (4) That a commission be appointed by General Synod to consider all financial and other matters, including apportionment, if any, of endowments, with power to tako legal and other advice, and that such commission report to the next meeting of the standing committee of the General Synod. That the Anckland members of tho commission be the Bishop of Auckland, the Venerable Archdeacon Evans, and Messrs. C. J. Tunks, A. B. Roberton, and C. Hudson. As the standing'committee of the General Synod meets in August next," said the Bishop, "it is most important that the commission ahould bo prepared to give an answer to the questions submitted to them.
