"If we did our. duty," declared Bishop Julius, in a sermon at Christehurch Cathedral the other; Sunday evening, "hundreds of social abuses would be swept away." "The other day," he added, "I was on the West Coast, and 1 looked at some of the miners' houses. We arc very angry tvith the miners; they don't work, they get big wages, and we don't get coal; we are vexed with them. But there is another side to the case. Those miners do work that not many of us would put our hands to, and they live in houses only fit for pigs. You say they I get good wages. So they do, but the circumstances they live under forbid j them making use of those good wages."
