Mr. Lightband waited up on the council witji a suggestion to beautify Devon Street, submitting a painting in support. He had given the question a good deal of thought regarding trees for shelter and shade. With regard to finance, he intended to canvass for subscriptions. New Zealand was one of the most beautiful countries in the world, and New Plymouth one of the prettiest towns in the Dominion. The town could be made more interesting by the addition of the suggested trees, and they all recognised that the attractiveness of a place added to its prosperity by securing settlers. After a brief discussion, it was agreed to grant permission to have the trees planted as set out by Mr. Lightband. / '
