HIGH VALUES OP PAT STOCK. BUTCHERS REQUEST REVISION OJ? BETAIL PRICES. Auckland, July 25. The greatly increased prices for fat stock were discussed, by a meeting of master butchers. After fully reviewing what was regarded as a serious position, together with the decision of the Board of Trade not to allow a revision of retail prices so long as I there Is froben meat available Jo butchers, It was decided to renew the request to the board for a revision of prices. It was stated that [ people would not buy frozen meat. ■ . ~.,.. SOUTHERN MARKETS. '!r . Chrislchurch, July 25. The produce markets have not yet recovered from the quietness that followed the curtailment of the railway service and the peace celebrations. Very little of anything is offering from the country, and at the same time the demand Is limited for almost every line. The wheat business Is very quiet, and there continues to be a good demand for fowl wheat, though many poultry keepers are using oats on acocuht of their relative cheapness. The nominal price of oats is about 3s 9d to. 4s at country stations, but no business Is passing betwoen growers and merchants. Oatsheaf chaff is quiet of sale, the demand sot being active In consequence of the weather keeping so dry and mild for this time of year. Vo to £6 10s per ton has been paid for chaff, wanted immediately, but buyers generally are not offering more than £0 at country stations, though at the latter figure there aro few sellers. There are no changes In the prices of clovers and linseed, but they are still firm. Partridge peas are In good demand, and prices aro a little firmer, 7s to 7s 3d now being the ruling rates. Owing to a speculative demand from Wellington, potatoes have shown a further advance and £ 7 15s to £ 8 at country stations has been paid. The tone of the market Is now a little easier. It is reported that Auckland has been supplied with a shipment of potatoes from Oamaru and Timaru, but another boat Is expects', to load at Lyttelton for Auckland at the end of next week. Onions have also firmed, and are selling at £ll 10s to £l2 at country stations. N.Z.L. AND M.A. C.0., LTD The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd. There was spirited competition throughout tlm ail i e , and wilh the exception of half a dozen horses of inferior quality, the whole of the entry was disposed of at prices which worn decidedly in ff'or of the vendors.
