London, July 28. •Professor Lefroy, who investigated the weevil in Australian wheat in 1018, assured Australian pressmen that, as the lesult of his experiments at ,the Royal College of Science, a parasite controlling tho blowfly in England has been discovered, and the control of. the Australian blowfly can now be definitely guaranteed, A selected blowfly area could be cleared in 18 months, a large area in three years, and the country in live years.—Axis.-N.Z. Cable Assn. SYDNEY'S POPULATION. Sydney, July 28. At the end of December last the population of the Metropolitan area was 792,700, an increase for. the year of 15,400 Ans.-N.Z. Cable Aflsn. VITAL STATISTICS. Sydney, July 28. Statistics show that the birth rate in Sydney for the past year was 24.87 per 1000 of the population, this being f1.9 per cent, below that for the previous five years. The death rate is also lower, being 4.8 per cent, below the average for (he preceding five years.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
