Wellington, who are leaving Stanley Road, "Stafford, to take up their residence at New Plymouth, were entertained by the residents of the district in the Stanley Road sehooi on Friday evening. The largo gathering was presided over by Mr. U. Sangstor, and among those present were: Major Hine, M.P., Mr. R. Masters (chairman of the Education Board), and the Rev. R. B. Tinsley. The chairman said that they had. gathered together to do honor to the whole Wellington family, who were respected very highly id the diHtrict. Mi\ Wellington was a good neighbor and farmer, and had done variable work as chairman of the Sehooi Committee. As host and hostess they had carried out their duties at various welcome home socials to soldiers, with credit to themselves and tlie district. Major Hine, after wishing Mr. and Mrs. Wellington Cod speed, presented •Mr. Wellington with an illuminated address, and Mrs. Wellington with a silver cake dish. Mr, Masters expressed his high appreciation of the good work that had been done by the Stanley Road school Committee, of which Mr. Wellington had been chairman. Mr. Wellington said he found it difficult to find reasons for ,the kind things that had been said about him. He wa9 proud of'the big gathering, and could say he had tried to do his duty. Referring to the school, he said he hoped it would be so conducted in the luture that it would not be a reproach to anyone. For the gifts he warmly thanked the residents. Songs and other items were given by Misses Phillips, -Scott, and Moore, Mrs. Hancock, and Messrs G. T. Walters, P. Aitken, A. D. Bills, and G. Sanne. The accompaniments were played by Misses Scott and Phillips. Music for the dance was provided by Miss Huse An excel- [ lent supper was served. A. AND P. ASSOCIATION. A meeting of the general committee of the Stratford A. and P. Association was held on Saturday, Mr. Dingle presiding over a large attendance. The president urged upon members the need .or greater interest in the work of the association Though there were •10 members on the committee, it was sometimes difficult to get a quorum of 10. With the offer from the Jersey Breeders' Association and ntlier assurances of support, the prospects for the coming show were very satisfactory, but they all wanted to do their best to get now members, entries for the show, and donations for "awards. The 'secretary' reported that since last meeting three menibers had resigned and ten new members had been elected. Two new members would be proposed at the meeting. The schedule for the show was discussed, and it was decided to have it put in order at an »arl.y date. A committee consisting of the president and Messrs Moon and Jackson was appointed to report on the state of the cattle pens and gates at the show grounds, and it was decided to have the different, pens named according w the iireed of tattle for which tliey are {o be used. The president and Mr. Huggitt were appointed a committee to report on the water supply at the show grounds. Mr Needham urged thai pedigree stock competing at the show,»when not handled by the owners or taken into the parade ring, should be disqualified from receiving a prize. He thought they should not only take action in this respect themselves, but should also approach other societies with a request that they should do the same. The schedule, he already provided for disqualification, and the rule only needed enforcement. Tiie president said Hie executive would consider the matter. The meeting then terminatedGENERAL. Raffles drawn at the Catholic Bazaar on Friday evening resulted as follows: Oil painting, N. A. Stevens; table centre, T. Sullivan; cushion, T. Zurchor; tea cosy, Mrs. J. Anderson; table centre, W. Benner; bridal doll, Mrs. C. Campbell. The bazaar concluded on Saturday night. Lieut- S. Macalister, of the Arm of Rutherford, Macalister and Coleman, solicitors, is expected, to arrive at Stratford on Wednesday evening. The final balance sheet 6f the Stratford Ladies' Patriotic Committee, which has now ceased- operations, shows that the total receipts for the Red Cross fund up to June 30 last were £4525, including tlio balance from the previous year of £4"20 9s 2d, market proceeds £l9O, and copper trail £3844 16s sd. The payments made totalled £4072 10s to the Red Cross, Wellington, and £53 10s to the Lady Liverpool Fund. The bank balance on June 30 £274, 3s 9d. In the Lady Liverpool Fund the receipts amounted to £033 13s lOd. The payments included £507 4a 3d for goods for parcels, £62 9s to the Lady Liverpool Fund, Wellington, and £l7 Is to the Battalion Fund. The bank balance on Juno 30 was £278 4s Od. At its last meeting, the Stratford County Council decided to enforce the heavy traffic by-law, limiting loads to 30 cwt. on each pair of wheels, and authority was given the engineer to prosecute anyone found infringing the by-law. It is understood that proceedings are pending against at least two m tor lorry proprietors. . Settlers of the Wharehuia district are tendering a welcome home banquet and social to Corporal Richmond, Gunner Sangstor, Privates Sheriff and Hanson in the Stanley sehooi to-morrow (Tuesday) evening. . The annual meeting of the Stratford Dairy Company will be held in the Town Hall at 11 o'clock to-day (Monday). The annual meeting of the Midhirst Dairy Company takes place at. 12.30 the same day.
