FOOTBALL NOTES. It was unfortunate for the Taranaki Rugby Union that the weather was unkind for the North v. South test match which took plati on Monday in the Recreation Grounds. It Is certain that after the splendid conteau witnessed by the huge and delighted crowds who viewed the seven-a-side tournament on Saturday, there would have been a large attendance. However, the match demonstrated clearly that football has not lost its hold on the public, for, despite the weather conditions (which could hardly have been worse), 1200 people journeyed to tin; Recreation Grounds, and stayed there right through. ,

Considering the day, the play was of a high class, a feature being the mnnner in which the North backs handled the ball; also tho dash their forwards infused into the piny, particularly In the loose. Though their score only consisted of two goals, and they did not succeed in scoring a try, the Northerners had much the better of the day's play. Prior, at full-back in the North team, came hrough tho ordeal well, taking the ball aad lining nicely.

The three-quarter line was a good one and combined well. Rogers and Stewart, on tho wings, did not get the opportunities that would have come their way on a dry day, but both Infuse dash into their work, and possess pace and know how to use their heads, as well as their feet.
