TRAMWAY SOCIAL.
1 . On Wednesday evening the local tramway staff entertained the Wellington Tramways football team (who wore on | their way to Auckland to play for the Ivohn Shield) at a smoke concert held in the Fitzroy Hall, about 70 being presont Councillor J. Clark (chairman of the tramwayH and lighting committee) presided. After the toast "Our King'' was duly honored, the chairman, in a few chosen remarks, welcomed the visitors, and in the course of his speech said he hoped the time was not far distant wheii New Plymouth tramways would bo sending a team of players to try to capture the shield. Mr. S. G. Smith, M.P., also welcomed flie team, remarking that hj« could not wish the Tramway team success in the match to .be played the following <hf With the Star team, as they were hil constituents. During the evening songs and recitations were given by several of the visitors and by local "talent, and what was a very pleasant evening ended with the singing of "Auld Lang, Syne" and "God Save the King," " ' The local tramway boys are to be con» gratulated on the success of the evening at such short notice. They alsd wish to thank the business people of Ne\f Plymouth for their kindness in donating ' refreshments, etc., to assist the function;
