NEW PLYMOUTH HIGH SCHOOLS BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING . ' The Board of Governors of the New Plymouth High Schools met on Tuesday evening, there being present: Messrs L. C. fcilaildcn (chairman), It. Trimble, F. W. Atkinson, S. G. Smith, M.P., A. 11. Johnstone, L. A. Nolan, A. Morton, and E, P. Webster. Leave of absence was granted to Dr. E. F. Fookes and Mr. J. S. Fox. It was notified that Messrs J. S. Fox and A. E. Washer had been elected unopposed as parents' representatives on the board for the ensuing two years, and .that Mr. 11. Trimble had been reappointed as the representative of the Taranaki Education Board.—Tho chairman congratulated Mr. Trimble on his re-appointmcnt. Messrs Roy and Nicholson, solicitors, reported on the completion of a lease from Mr. F. M. Grayling to the board of part section F, New Plymouth. The question of the acquisition of Mr. Pott's property adjoining the land, and an offer from the borough council to transfer their interest in Reserve T (also adjoining) were referred to the farm committee of the board, who will report ,to the jiext meeting. The Minister of 'Education, in reply to a telegram from the board's secretary, s.tated that he hoped to be in a position to place tho matter of grants: before Cabinet at its next meeting. It was reported that a war bursary had been granted to James E. Jackson in place of one previously held by his brother and relinquished. Arising out of a letter from the Taranaki Provincial War Relief Association, it was decided to subsidise two war scholarships for the year 1920. Plans were received from Mr. T. M. Bates, architect, for two proposed new boarding houses, one for boys and«me for girls. ' Accounts amounting to £2085 17s lid were passed for payment.
