RESTRICTED TRAIN SERVICE.
MR. WILKINSON'S EFFORT TO SECURE IMPROVEMENTS. ' Mr. C. A. Wilkinson, M.P., in ontar to try and improve the difficult position in Taranaki brought about by the railway restrictions, has sent ,the following tele* gram to the Acting Prime Minister (Sir James Allen):—• "Re railway paralysis. Country people are being put to enormous expense and great inconvenience, which also results in unemployment, owing to stoppage of 'transit of ordinary goods between Now Plymouth and Patea to inlaifd centres In Taranaki. In view of the fact that nearly four thousand ,tons of coal wen landed at New Plymouth during the put month, which is more than the normal quantity, I cannot understand the post* tion .taken up by the Railway Depart* * raent. Surely it is possible to dispatch say, two goods trains each week from both Patea and New Plymouth to, Bay, Stratford, which is approximate]/ jthe centre of the provinob. Unless tiuf can be done, serious trouble must Msult. In v addition, main roads must suffer gttafly ' owing to heavy traffic being imposed t»i mid-winter."
