WAITARA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) ' Waitara, July 24. As a wind-up to ,the peace celebrations on Saturday night and perhaps under the influence of the cup that cheers, a considerable amount of damage was done to the flags which were used to decorate the town. Mos,t of the flags were-pulled down, and some of them destroyed. I believe the Peace Celebrations Committee is to be asked to make good the loss of two flags belonging to the Harbor Board. A li,ttle harmless horseplay and noise on an occasion like this no one minds very much, 'but when it comes to destroying property that is another matter, and it is to be hoped that those responsible for the damage will be made to pay. I understand that over the 100 names necessary to form a brancli of the Returned Soldiers' Association have been handed in, and the necessary steps will at once be taken to complete ments. It is rumored that the ladies are going to get up entertainments to raise runds for a returned soldiers' club. If this is done the club should soon be an accomplished fact. The Peace Night dance, promoted by •the Clifton Football Club, was rather poorly attended, only about 30 couples taking the floor. The night was a very Wet one, and this probably accounts for the poor attendance. Mr. J. Taylor supplied the music, and extras were played by Mrs. L. Birdling, Miss G. Skclton, and Aliases Parry and G. Fraser. Messrs S. D. George and F. Proctor were M's C. A mee.ting of the Peace Celebrations Committee is to be held on Friday night to wind up the affairs of the committee. Mr. G. A. Thompson lias been appointed Diocesan Secretary at Auckland. He was for some time secretary of the Waitara Harbor Board.
