HUN CRIMINALS.
SOME OF THE WORST. The Allies have compared lists of war criminals in their possession, in order to present a list to the German Government of those who are to be brought to trial. The offenders fall roughly into three classes. First are those responsible for the horrors of the submarine campaign, both the instigators and those who carried out the devilish atrocities, of which the British Admiralty has a lengthy list. Second are those who were responsible for bombing and bombarding hospitals, the massacres of civilians, the slaughter of prisoners, the deportations, the pillage, the burning of Lou vain, the destruction of Aerschot, and the executions of Nurse Cavell and Captain Fryatt. Third are the commandants and other bullies of the prison camps, concerning whom hundreds of affidavits made by British prisoners are in possession of the Government. Among those whose names have already been put on public record are: Baron von Bissing, German Governor • of Belgium, and Baron von der Lancken, German head of the Political Department, Brussels, and others concerned in the murders of Nurse Cavell and Captain Fryatt. Admiral von Capelle, responsible for the later submarine outrages; Lieutenant Wilhelm Werner, Commander Max Valentiner, and Commander von Forstner, indicted by the British Admiralty for submarine crimes such as the sinking of hospital sjiips. Prince Rupprecht of Bavaria, Hindenburg, and Maekensen, responsible for illtreatment of prisoners, execution of civilians, deportations, and systematic destruction. Von Manteauffel, who ordered the burning of Louvain, and Major von BuJow, the author of the destruction of Aerschot and the execution of 150 civilians there. Von Schubert, von Bulow, Klauss, Stenger, von Dreicht, and Vlegen, responsible foil, massacres of civilians in circumstances of awfuT brutality: and. General von Hanisch, Major Bash, the brother Niemoyer, General' Pavlovsky, Major von Gortz, Dr. Aschenbach, General von Dicssel, Blunter, Rosberg, Bauer, and many other responsible for atrocities in prison camps. In addition, there are lists of Germans, Turks, and Bulgars responsible for atrocities in the Eastern theatres of war, including massacres of Armenians and Syrians, for which General Liman von Sanders has already been indicted by General Franchet d'Esperey.
