HIDE AND TALLOW REPORT. Batgety and Co. (Wellington) report: We held our usual fortnightly sale of hides and tallow this afternoon, when small catalogues were submitted to a good attendanco of buyers. As usual the tanners solocted those lines suitable for their requirements at schedule rates, and the balance of the hides were submitted tu auction. These met Willi particularly keen competition, and prices for light ox, and medium and light weight cow showed an advanco of from 2d to 2'/ 2 (l per lb. Yearlings in particular were in keen demand, and some lines went as high as 21% d per lb. No lightweight calfskin* were offered, but are being held for sale at a later date. Tallow was again very firm, and prices showed au advance of from 2s to 4s per cwt, We quote: Hides.—Ox, heavy (Oflibs up), 12% d to 14 %d' medium (00/541), ll%d to 13% d; light (49 and under), 10% d to 16& d; cow, heavy (55Ibs and over), lid to 14% d; medium (42 to 54), lid to I0%d; light (under 42), lid to IC^d; cut, slippy and inferior, B%d to lOd; bull stag, Bi4d to 12? id; yearlings (161bs to 241bs), 12& d to 21% d; calf (superior (up to lOibs), 19% d to 20% d; medium to good (up to 161b3), 18d; damaged (up to 161bs), lOd to 17d. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., Hawera branch, report as follows: At Oimnnke on Monday, 14th Inst., wo had a big yarding of cattlo, which met with a ready sale. We quoto as follows: Light fat cows, £10; forward cows, £8; store cows, £6 6s to £7 15s; 2 1 ,fc-year steers, £9 Is to £9 6s; weaner heifers, £3 to £3 12s; weaner steers, £1 15s; mixed weaners, £2 4s; empty 18months heifers, £5 16s; In-calf 18-mouths heifers,' £5 15s; springing heifers, £ll to £lO 15s. At Manaia on Tuesday we had an average yarding which sold at late rates. Prices were as follows: Light fat cows, £lO 14s; forward cows, £8 2s 6d to £9 14s; store cows, £6 9fl,' bulls, £ 9 15s to £lO 2s 6d; mixed weaners, £1 12s 6d to £1 14s; store pigs, £2 8s to £3 14s; slips, £1 12s; fencing posts, 1/9 and 1/10. At Hawera yards on Wednesday we hold a clearing sale of pedigree and grade Jersey cattle on account of Messrs D. and A. E. Watkin In conjunction with Newton King, particulars of which appeared in Thursday's paper. ADDINGTON MARKET. Christchurch, July 16. At 'he Addington market thore were good yardlngs of fat stock, and although there was practically only a butcher's market, prices were very firm. There was a good attendance, especially of thoso interested In store sheep, for which there was a. fair demand at firmer rates. The few lines of fat hoggets entered were sold among the fat sheep, and their values were affected by the absence of export competition. Fat sheep, on tbo other hand, showed an advance ill many Instances, tho butchers requiring full supplies. Pat cattlo were also firmer, and there was some business done by export buyers in the lighter conditioned sorts. There was very little demand for store cattle. Tiie dairy cows were a poor lot, and pigs sold well. Prices ran: Store sheep.—Two-tooth ewes to 33s 3d, 4, 0 and a-tooth ewes 25s to 275, sound and failing, mouth ewes 12s 3d to 26s sd, 2-tooth wethera 21s to 30s 6d, 4 and 6-toolli wethers 30s to 32s Id. Fat sheep—Extra prime wethers to 62s 6d, prime wethers 46s to 50s 3d, medium wethers 36s to 455, lighter wethers 29s 4d to 35s 6d, merino wethers 23s 6d to 29s 6d. extra prime ewes 60s 6d, prime ewes 40s to 48s, medium ewes 33s to 39s 6d, lighter ewes 22s to 32s 6d, prime hoggets 33s to 345, lighter hoggets 20s 9d to 32s 6d. Pat cattle— Exlra prime steers to £29, prime steers £l9 to -£23 ss, ordinary steers £9 10s to £lB 15s, prime heifers £l2 17s Od to £l7 12s 6d, ordinary heifers £9 to £l2 10s, extra prime cows £2O, prime cows £ll 15s to £l6 7s Cd, ordinary cows £8 10s to £2O IDs. Store cattle—--254-yoar heifers £5 19s, dry cows £5 to £B. Pigs.—Extra heavy baconers to £7 2s, heavy £6 to £6 15s, medium £4 15s to £5 10s (equal to B%d per lb) ; heavy porkers £3 10s to £4, medium £2 10s to £3 5s (equal to 9%d to lOd per lb); choppers £5 to £!); medium stores £2 to £2 14s, small stores 30s to 3Gs, weaners 8s Od to 17s 6d. BURNSIOE SALES. Dunedln, July 16. At Burnsldo 132 fat cattle were penned. The quality was mostly medium, but competition was keen, mid prices advanced 10a to 20s. Prices ranged : Best bullocks £22 to £2O 2s 6d, medium £l9 10s to £2l, lighter £ls to £l7, prime heifers £ls 5s to £l7 ss, medium £l3 to £ls. Of fat sheep 1327 were penned, mostly medium to inferior, with a few pens of good sorts. Competition was keen, and prices for good quality advanced Is to 2s. Inferior were slow of sale, and prices -were baroly equal to late rates. They ran Prime wethers 53s to 58s 6d, medium 44s to 51s, light to 38s. A total of 482 lambs was penned, the quality being medium. Prices wore practically on a par with late rates, best being from 25s to 335, and medium to 20s.
