FARMERS' UNION.
MEETING AT MAKETAWA. There was a meeting of the Maltetawa branch °* New Zealand Farmers' Union on Monday night 14th inst., when Mr J. Stephens presided and about half a acore of members were present, which, considering the w|-ather conditions, was a very creditable attendance, a resolution to approach the Minister for Agriculture by letter or wire, re the passage by rail of lime. Which had been arranged for : before railway dislocation, was unanimously carried. Mr Wilfred Marshall brought forward the question of the use of 'the much vaunted Agricultural Department, vhich if seemed was hide-bound by Red Tape. He had sent a sample of fertilizer to Wellington asking for analysis and advice, and he showed to the meeting the reply he had received which referred Mm to the 'Fertilizer Oflcer, of the local staff" and by the voice of the meeting he was asked to reply thereto: "Who la the F. 0.1 Don't know him." -i
