Mr, King, president of the Chinese National Welfare League, has received a message from Pekin saying that a delegation of Chinese patriots endeavored to commit suicide in the presence of Huslii Cliong, President of China, as a pro,test against the Shantung settlement. Three members of the delegation succeeded in severely wounding themselves. Hushi Chong told the delegation that the treaty whioh gives Shantung to Japan mus,t be signed. Washington, July 11. Diplomatic advices from Pekin indicate that the Chinese Government has been placed in an extremely embarrassing position by the refusal of the Chinese delegates to sign the Treaty. It was pointed out that China fears Japan may not withdraw her troops from ICaiochatl unless China signs the Treaty.—Aus.N.Z. Cable Assn.
