NEW PLYMOUTH BOROUGH COUNCIL.

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the New Plymouth Borough Council was held last night, there being present: His Worship the Mayor (Mr. (J. 11. Burgess), Crs. I l '. J. Hill, W. F. Short, AV. A. Collis, A. S. Brooker, N. L. Parkin, and V. H. S. Griffiths. Apologies for absence were received from Crs J. Clarke and J. W. Hayden. The reports of departmental officers and committees were considered and adopted. GENERAL PURPOSES COMMITTEE. A meeting of the General Purposes Committee was subsequently held, the came Councillors being present. The Valuer-General wrote in regard to the revision of local bodies' rolls to the effect that the staff of his office was too busily engaged in the work to take tn hand the New Plymouth rolls at the present time. Probably there would be an opportunity at the end of September to deal with the local rolls. The revision has been asked for in consequence of the dEanges decided upon in the system of ratfng,—Received. Cr. Collis passed thfe questions of changing the name of that section of Liardet Street, between Fillis and Gilbert Streets, to "Peace Avenue," in vietf of the fact that the planting of memorial trees there was the only act in tlia peace celebrations that had any semblance of permanency about it.

The matter was referred to the Sfreets sub-Committee. Cr. Griffiths asked if a few loads of screenings could not be put on the footpath in Smith Street, as at present it was almost impassable for the children going to the school. In reply to the Mayor, the engineer said ho had a note of the matter, which would be attended to at the first opportunity. i

The Fitzroy Ratepayers' Association were given authority to plant trees in Sackville Street, and the Vogeltown Association to plant in Rawhiti, Smith and Hori Streets;
