Sir Arthur Berriedale Keith, formerly of the Colonial Office, raises the question whether the Peace Conference's recognition of the international status or the Dominions will not require it to he made clear that the favored nation clause does not interfere with inter-Imperial preference. THE BRITISH LOAN. ' London, July 17. The loan realised 530,000,000 of new money at face value, equalling £ 450,000,000 cash value. Mr. Chamberlain, Chanceller of the Exchequer, considers it staisfactory, but fays it sliows the need of great caution in national and private expenditure. VICTORY WAR LOAN. London, July 17. In the House of Common.;, Mr Austin Chamberlain announced that the result of the Victory Loan was approximately 700 millions, made up as follows: funding loan, 274 millions, bonds, 265 millions; conversions, )li!) million:-.. REFLOATING THE GERMAN FLEET. London, July 17. The Admiralty has placed contracts for refloating the sunken German fleet at Scapa Flow. TRAINING THE DEMOBILISED. Received July 20, 5.5 p m. Roberts, Minister of Food Control, commenting on the food outlook, says the only remedy is a reduction of prices and increased home production. Ilis advisers predicted that the sovereign would probably soon be wor,th only four dollars.
EX-SOLDIERS' GRIEVANCES. Received July 21, 12.10 a.m. Londou, July lfl. The ex-servicemen's grievances at Lutou regarding pensions culminated in the interruption of peace celebrations, sympathisers storming the Town Hall, and smashing the furniture, and pulldown the decorations. Order was gradually restored.
