A London cable states tha,t General. Botha, after leaving Jingland, was in a serious condition for some days owing to the bursting of an artery in his leg, An old resident of Masterton, Mr. Harry A. Scott, who was well known as a newspaper agent, died at the end of last week, at the age of 70 years. Miss Allen, daughter of the ActingPrime Minister, was among the exiles who returned from Sydney by the Manuka on Monday.
At Friday's meeting of the New 'Plymouth Harbor Board, a resolution of sympathy was passed with Mr C. IS. Bellringer in the loss sustained by hiß family in ,the death of hia brother.

At Auroa on Wednesday last Miss Agnes Elizabeth Dunn, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs R. Dunn, of Auroa, was married to Mr. A. J. Haseltino, eldest son of MrJ. Haseltine, South Road, Hawcra. The Rev. H. B. Gray officiated. The news has been received in Kit bum of the death of Major Herbert Bow en Hamlin, D.5.0,, of the Australian 10th Light He died at Ismailia on May 20 of pericarditis. He will be remembered (says the Argus) as being in the office of Mr. Templer, surveyor. He was a fine lad, and commanded general respect. Deep sympathy will bo felt in .this district for his widowed mother, whose only son he was, and for his wife, i After the speeches on Saturday afternoon at Hawera, the Mayor made a presentation from the citizens of a gold watch and chain ,to Lieut. Laurent, V.C. The crowd enthusiastically applauded tho recipient and several returned soldiers who were wearing decorations. After tho presentation the Mayor and Lieut.
