SYDNEY ILLUMINATIONS. CITY COUNCIL AGAINST SPENDING MONEY. Received July 10, 1015 p.m. Sydney, July 18. The City Council has decided not to illuminate ,the Town Hall for the peace celebrations. The majority of the aldermen are opposed to the spending of the money, which could be better employed in relieving the prevalent distress. The hospitals and charitable institutions are widely appealing for peace celebration funds. The Sydney Hospital has launched an appeal for £IOO,OOO. HOTELS TO BE CLOSED. Received July 10, 10.15 p.m. Melbourne, July 10. '. The Federal Cabinet has decided to close the hotels during the peace celebrations on Saturday. NEW PLYMOUTH ARRANGEMENTS. The Committee in charge of. the Children's Peace Ball on Thursday, and the Citizens' Ball on Friday hove their arrangements well in hand, and the present indications are that both these functions will eclipse any similar functions ever held in New' Plymouth. Returned soldiers will be admitted to both functions free upou showing their badges. The electric lighting stall ara now erecting the lamps for street illuminations, Business people are requested to fly bunting, and also to make special shows in their windows on Saturday. The procession on Saturday also promises to be an unqualified success, and it is earnestly requested that every car owner will join in the procession, In order to avoid confusion at the starting point, private cars assembling in Gill Street are requested to enter Gill Street irom Gover Street or any street east of Govtr Street,

Car owners are specially requested to see that their brakes are in good order before taking part in the procession. Special invitations to societies and local bodies to take part in the procession have not been sent out, but a general invitations to every local body, society, school, and other organisations appears in our advertising columns.

A notice of interest to owners cf cars assisting in the children's motor drive on Monday nlso appears in this issue. The children will receive a hearty welcome at lnglewood on Monday. The procession will pass through there just prior to the local colebrations, and it is certain that a large number of residents will turn out. It is expected that several country schools will take part in the trip. Arrangements have been made ,to take the children from Frnnkley, Westown, Vogeltown, and Omata schools to the Coronation Hall after the drive. They should bring their own luncheon, hut will be provided with a cup of cocoa. They will subsequently proceed to the pictures. Parents are strongly advised to see that the children are warmly dad for the motor ride, even though the day may be sunny. Few people realise that at tills time of year the air is keen and is much more severely felt in a motor than would be the case while walking along the street. Additional offers of cars have seen received from the following: Messrs G. Pearce, W- C. Lovell, Clothier, Locke, Sorenson, H. H. Grayling, S.teed, R. Pepperill, Duckworth, j. Gray, C. Hoskin, H. Linn, Jordain, G. Kibby, Burr, West, Colson, Tichbon, Alexander, G. H. Maunder, and Mrs. Holmes.,

Owing to the Carrington Road being under reconstruction it ha 1 been found impossible to run the bus to Vogeltown after the Children's Peace Ball to-night.
