PERSONAL.

A'London iahle states that the Prince of Wales is convalescent. Inspector W. Hendry, of tho Wanganui police, was in Sew Plymouth, yesterday on official business. He returns to Wanganui this morning. Mr. and Mm. T. A. Weston, of Kaimata, have received word from Base Records that their third son, Roland (Rolls), is due to arrive in Wellington by the Briton on or about July 21. Archdeacon F. G. Evans returned from Auckland, by the Rarawa yesterday. He is recovering from the effects of his illness, but will have to rest for some time yet.

Mr. W. H. Smith, of Eltham, left by the Rarawa last evening for Auckland to meet his brother, Private \V. M. Smith, M.M., who is expected to arrive by the Marama on Thursday. Mr. T. B. Ching, manager of the Wellington branch of the South British Insurance Company, has been appointed London manager for the company, vice Mr. Robert Hislop, who is retiring on superannuation.

By the death of Mr. Roland Garrett, who passed away on Saturday at the good old age of B*2 years, Wanganui loses one of its oldest and most respected settlers. The deceased gentleman was one of the best known civil engineers in the country, and practised his profession till comparatively recently. He was a man of high principles and was held in the highest esteem by all who knew him, says the Chronicle.
