WAITARA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) Waitara, July 14. The Peace Celebrations Committee met on Friday night, and decided that they would adhere to the programme already drawn •up for Saturday. A big procession is to be organised and prizes given for the best decorated motor lorry, motor car, tableaux, gig, tradesman's cart, motor bicycle, and pedal bicycle; also to the best fancy dressed boy and girl. Short patriotic addresses arc to be given by Mr. W. T. Jennings, M.P., and others, and singing by the children. A dinner is to be given to returned soldiers and friends, and lunch is ,to be provided for the children. In the afternoon there are to be children's sports and continuous pictures in the Theatre Royal, soldiers and children being admitted free. An open-air concert is also to be arranged, with fancy dancing. In .the evening there is to be a bontlre on Manukorutu Hill and fireworks from the cattle wharf, to finish up at 10 o'clock with "God Save the King." The Waitara* Municipal Band will play during the afternoon and evening. On Monday the Hunt Club has offered to give a point ,to point steeplechase on Mr. Les. Birdling's property, which offer has been accepted by the committee. Given fine weather, this should make a very good outing for the afternoon. I understand a 'bus is running from the town, The second junior football match between Lcpperton and Clifton, which was played here on Saturday aftemoi,ii, resulted in a .win for Clifton by 1) to 6. With the wind behind them in the first spell Clifton registered 9 points to nil and had all the best of the game, but in the second half, when Leppe'rton had the wind, they more than held their own, and put up six points. The game ended Clifton 9, Leppcrton 6. Mr. J. Boland, the new postmaster, arrived here on Friday and took up his duties at onee. He has been transferred from Tailmpo, where he was presented, on leaving, with a silver shaving mug and his wife witli a gold bangle. Sergeant Dewhirst, who was on the bank staff here before going to the front, is due to arrive back by the Mararna on the 17th inst. Sergeant W. Chapman is also coming homo by the Marama. We regret that Sergeant Chapman, who has seen a lot of service, is coming home as a hospital patient.
