NOTES ON THE RACING. (Special to News.) Wellington, July 12. The Wellington Winter meeting was concluded to-day in wet weather. Gang 'Awa, winner of the Brooklyn Steeplechase, was sent out a good favorite for the opening event. As usual Gold Soult did not leave the mark, but the others went away well. Ganisj Awa' led over the first hurdle but, passing the stand, Munster rushed to the front, Along the back stretch Gang Awa' ran past Munster and Wild Pilgrim and took third positoin, Bairnsdale, who had been tailing the field, came down at the back. From the time Ganga Awa' took the lead the race was over, Munster and Wild Pilgrim got within striking distance at the straight entrance, but in the Ttin home they eonld not extend Gang Awa', and he passed the post a length jgnd a half to too good Sturdee was a fair thml, Grafton. Tot fourth, and Munster fifth. The BtaTt for the Onslow Handicap was only a fair one. Astinome got out with a good lead, and, entering the straight, he was going very nicely on the rails with Form Up and Parisian Diamond coming fast. Below the distance the top-weight ran up to Astinome, and from then on went away, and won nicely by over a length. The third horse was two lengths away, and Form, Up was right up, fourth. For the Hack Steeplechase, Gaekwar wps made a good favorite, but his chances never looked good. Manawapango was taken to the front, and, passing the stand, he led with Kurapai, Lochella and Gaekwar next. The fence at the turn out of the straight, almost accounted for Gaekwar, and at the back of the course the order was Manawapango, Kurapai, Lochella, with Gwynne, who was jumping very badly tailing the field. Manawapango was still in front at tha sod wall, with Kurapai gaining on him and Lochella handy. As the field turned out of the straight, Kurapai went to the front, and Manawapango hit the next fence rathei; hard. Torehy fell at the post and rail's, and lochella went up after the leader. Kurapai and Lochella were first into the straight, with Manawapango coming again. Lochella went on and won pulling up by a length, with' Manawapango several lengths away and Gaekwar fourth. These were the only horses to finish.

The Cvofton 'Handicap was run in drizzling rain. Prottv Bobby aid Tame Fox were hot favorite. ' The topweight got away well, but was not prominent for long. At the straight entrance, Manu and Tame Fox were in the lead, w"itji Sacramento handy. Tame Fox shook off Manu. and Sacramento also hut inside the distance Probity came with a great run, and won by half a head; the third horse was a length and.a half back. Troublesome and Torchy were the only scratching for the big Steeplechase, and Bon Heve carried the bulk of the support on the machine. At tlie start, Merrie Lad- led Vascular and Tolthogtie, but a couple of furlongs further on Polthoguo replaced Vascular, and Coalition lay fourth. Coalition again improved liis position at the back of the course, where Bon Heve anil Signature were last. The field, however, were well together. When the aod wall was reached, Signature had run up into second place, lie tried to evade the water jump, and wa3 kept to it and got over. He went to the front immeditely afterwards and established a good lead, Coalition was nearly down at the next fence, but McSweenny made a line recovery. Half a mile from home Vascular was' out in front, with Bon Eeve about ten lengths kick in second position, and Signature next. Bon Reve made up ground fast, and was with Vascular tottoaef the straight, and

ho took the final jump first, and in the run home tie southerner could not foot it with him. Bon Reve won by six lengths. Signature was fifteen lengths further back, and Coalition was fourth. Loyal Arch and Multive were the best backed in tha big hurdle race, but, while the former ran a great race, the latter , jumped badly and was last most of the journey, Loyal Arch and Movement led in the early part of the race, but with half the journey gone Cynic went up and lay close behind the leaders, and Loyal Arch lost his position. Nearing the straight Loyal Arch, running on the outer, came agaTn. She was first over the final jump, but Rcwi Poto was altnost alongside, and in the mn homo the New Plymouth horse was much too fast for the mare, and won easily by a couple of lengths. Paraoa (another New Plymouth horse), was several lengths back third, Cynic was fourth and Multive last.

The field of over twenty were kept waiting at the post a long while in the Winter Oats, and the start was only a fair one. Damien and Comment led in the early stages, and at the entrance to the straight Gazique showed up, Paddington Green became prominent below the distance, but Client, coming' on the outside, won easily by a couple of lengths. The Fordell horse paid a great price, and the second horse also gave a good return. Bagdad was a fair third, and Gazique fourth.

Tho last race was run in rain and a dying light. Elleullus got out well, and led to the straight where Canzonet was brought along, and. won witli great ease. Tempo was a fair third, and Imaribbon fourth. 'AUSTRALIAN RACING. THE GRAND NATIONAL STEEPLES. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—-Copyr'Cht. Received July 13, 6.5 p.m. .Melbourne, July 13.
