Mr. Frank Ranford, wlio recently sold his farm interests, does not intend to leave Stratford district He has purchased from Mr. J. 8. Jones the late Lieut-Colonel Malone's fine property opposite hia old farm. Mr. Ranford, as president of the Jersey Breeders' Association, and in other ways, has done valuable work which haR brought him prominently among farmers. As a breeder of pedigree stock he has built up a splendid reputation, and is known not only throughout the North Island, but in other parts of the Dominion as well. The conditions on his new farm are most favorable to tliu breeding of the high-class stock to which Mr. Ranford intends to give as much attention as formerly. As an instance of the ineonvenieee to which some people arc put as a result of the shortage of houses, it wan stated yesterday that a man and his wife and several children wer# living in a single room in a garret. The one compartment has to serve for all purposes. At the Juvenile Court yesterday, before Mr. S. E. McCarthy, S.M., three boys aged 15, 13 and 10 years were committed to an Industrial Home o* a ' charge of having entered a local coal merchants' office and stolen a small sum of money, a clock and a cheque book. A week or so previously the bovs had been before the Court on a similar charge. D. Sisarich, a restaurant-keeper, was charged with having sold cigarettes to a juvenile, one of the boys already dealt with. The Magistrate, who said that defendant was liable to a fine of £lO, imposed a penalty of £3, with costs. In the following civil cases, judgment was given for plaintiff with costs: Lester Bros. v. F. Goocli, a claim for £l3 lis Bd, iind Win. Parkinson v. W. Mitchinson, a claim for £9 5s sd. L. Dumball, for cycling at night without a light was fined 10s. with costs 7s, in default seven days' imprisonment, A social was held in the Town Hall on Friday evening in aid of the forthcoming Catholic bazaar The attendance was large enough to ensure financial success, but not too large for comfortable dancing. The floor was in the best of order and excellent music was provided by Mrs. Bianchi (piano) and Mr. Parker (cornet). Extras were played In- Misses Reilly and Kellv and Messrs. M. Tavlor and Alex. Coleman. Mr. Jan acted as M.C. The ladies provided a capitable supper GUN CLUB'S SHOOT.

The Stratford Gun Club's shoot on Jfessrs. Kelson and Green's property, East Road, on Thursday, was -well attended. The novice match for those who had not, won a first prize previously was won by J. Petrie off the 10 yard mark. Three tied for second place— F. O'Connor (14yds), C. Jackson (10yds), and K Knuekev, Eitham (10yds). In the shoot off, Kennedy won. The open sweepstake drew twelve shooters in a fifteen bird contest. H. Harrison won right out with ten, the runners up being ! A Xelson (20yds.!, F. Whittle (20yds), jand H. J. Kmickey (14yds), with nine ' each. Another open sweepstake brought out r the same number of competitors, under the same conditoins, and was won by B. Green (18yds) with 13. while F Whittle (20yds) was second. For third place J. Martin (12yda) and A Nelson (19yds), tied. Tu a "first-miss out," with eleven competitors, A. Nelson (Iflydis) and F. Jans (13yds) tied, the latter carrying off the prize in the shoot-off. A box shoot off 2S yards was won by R J. Kmickey. Mr. H. Campbell was handicapper and referee. TECHNICAL. HIGH SCHOOL. The chairman of the ""aranaki Education Board, Mr. Robert Masters, has now received the approved plans of the Stratford Technical High School, which pro vide for a thoroughly modern and most complete school building. One of the reasons for the acquirement of such a large section in the position on Swansea ißoad, where the school is to be erected,to provide for all future possible ex•'"Psions and requirements, to allow foi the addition of further workshops in the future, and to provide a football ground, ' a hockey field, tennis courts and a site I for a boys' hostel. The main entrance to the school will face Oloton Road, the building standing ; well back from Swansea Road. Just 1 inside the main entrance is the headmaster's office and other offices, the rest of the front of the building being occupied by four classrooms, each 23 feet by 20 feet There are two large rooms ! at the corners of the front, section, one being for science and the other for domestic science. On the left there is a large wing, which includes a chemistry room 34ft by 23ft, and two class-rooms 23ft by 20ft, Another wing, running parallel to the front section includes a class-room 30ft by 24ft and two class-rooms-23ft by 21ft. Provision is made for the erection at some future time of a grand assembly lialt-fiSft br,,2oft. At present this ia not tlie buildings, which have been approved by the Department.
